The Lair of the White Worm (1988) πŸ“€

[Goth’s Pick]

When I picked this film for movie night, I had no idea what to expect. I hadn’t heard anything about it, I didn’t read reviews, I’d never seen a trailer; frankly I didn’t even know what it was about. All I knew was that my man, Peter Capaldi, was a part of the top cast and it was listed on IMDB as a horror/comedy.

I had no idea I would be in for such a treat. The tone of the movie is established very early on, and has that very specific vintage, campy flavor to it. The Lair of the White Worm is a flawless cross between From Dusk Til Dawn and The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec. It marries over-the-top, inappropriate horror-based humor with the mystery and monsters of an adventure film.

I had so much fun watching this movie, and it felt immediately classic to me. The local lore, the magic and creatures, the archaeology aspect, and the weird British humor all combined for a really great viewing experience. It has the vibe of a movie you might randomly find on cable one night and it becomes an unknown “cult classic” experience for your household. I will absolutely be hanging a poster or artwork of this movie in my house.

Rating: πŸ“€ I loved this movie!

My best friends and I (known affectionately as Goblin House) have a regular movie night where we all sit down together and watch a movie one of us has chosen. Most of these reviews will come from a Goblin Movie Night, so they will be tagged with the nickname of the Goblin who picked the movie.
