Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) ๐Ÿ’พ

[Jock’s Pick]

So, yeah. I went 22 years of my life without seeing this movie and it all came to an end this week.

My apologies to the people who like this movie, but it took 1h26m of its 1h50m runtime for this film to make me laugh, and for a movie that’s meant to be a comedy, that’s quite sad. It was nearly two hours of jokes that weren’t funny, characters that were annoying, and a boring plot that couldn’t make up for any of that.

The only relief I felt was during scenes involving Jean Girard. I can say that I enjoyed their rivalry and I was pleasantly surprised that none of the gay jokes felt derogatory to me or to Nerd. I can also say that each main character had a journey in the story that felt realistic to them and had a satisfying ending for their characters.

I think Will Ferrell and I must be on opposite sides of the globe of humor, since his work doesn’t usually do much for me. I came away from this thinking that I wish I had watched Cars instead. This was so much not my cup of tea, it may as well have been another beverage entirely.

Rating: ๐Ÿ’พ I disliked this movie.

My best friends and I (known affectionately as Goblin House) have a regular movie night where we all sit down together and watch a movie one of us has chosen. Most of these reviews will come from a Goblin Movie Night, so they will be tagged with the nickname of the Goblin who picked the movie.
